ART & TECH INSIGHTS:

This site chronicles professional and personal journeys made by me, Ben Williams, aka "Bendrix". The site features my photos, videos and aural poetics. It also highlights my deep fascination with technology, gadgets and all things digital.

I have a BA in Graphic Design from Central State University in Ohio and digital film training from New York Film Academy. I have worked for fifteen years in the ad industry, USA and China inclusive, and from 2014 to present I have worked in the Canadian independent film industry. I can also be counted among the first generation of creatives to emerge out of the podcast and digital video community in 2005.

In a nutshell, this site may appeal to content creators, iPhonographers, music enthusiasts, filmmakers, tech geeks and CSS and Wordpress nerds. I welcome you to sift through my photos, read my blog and listen to my Eargasm selects. NOTE: I did not create any of the music posted on this site; but rather, Eargasm is merely a term that I made up, to artfully and poetically, articulate the visual intent, mood and tone of a soundscape (Bendrix video editing tips 101).

CSS GRID & WORDPRESS:

bendrix.me: a self-hosted Wordpress website that was constructed using CSS Grid as its blueprint and the bare-bones themed template HTML5 Blank was its canvas. The site was coded from scratch using exclusively, "vanilla" CSS3 and HTML5, with a mild twist of PHP. It was my personal challenge and goal to avoid using plugins, floats, frameworks and Javascript!

This site is a time capsule of my honed skills as an amature dabbling off and on (for the past 20 years) with front-end web development. I credit the evolution of my skills, knowledge and inspiration to true pioneers: Jeff Raskin (Human–Computer Interface Expert), Hillman Curtis (Flash Design & Interactive Pioneer), Ethan Marcotte (Father of Responsive Web Design), Rachel Andrew (Mother of CSS Grid), Jen Simmons (Graphic Design & CSS Grid Mad Scientist), Matt Mullenweg (Wordpress Founder & Evangelist) and Jakob Nielsen (Web Usability Expert).

  - lynda.com: This is a monthly all you can view subscription service that provides full access to all in their education library. There are many filmmaking, photography, music, animation, 3D and art and design series on this site.
  - creativelive.com: This is a pay per view educational series, IT'S NOT an all you can view subscription service like Lynda.com, in the long run, it will be more expensive. An excellent resource for creatives in photography, music, filmmaking or art and design.
  - totaltraining.com: This is both a subscription and a pay per view educational service. Its a solid resource for creatives using Adobe, Final Cut X, Logic and Garage Band.
